2. Apa makanan kegemaran Sara Kyoko?

Saya paling menggemari pasta.

3.  Siapakah penulis kegemaran Sara Kyoko? (tak kisah luar negara or dalam negara)

JK Rowling – the one and only.

4. Apakah novel kegemaran Sara Kyoko? (tak kisah luar negara or dalam negara)

Rangkaian novel – novel Harry Potter. Masih tidak mampu untuk move on.

‘Kritik bukannya kutuk’.

9. Pada pandangan Sara Kyoko, apa istimewanya novel Murni Aqila  berbanding novel lain di pasaran?

Novel – novel saya biasa sahaja.

11. Apa rutin harian Sara Kyoko? Ada yang rare tak?

Rutin harian saya biasa sahaja.

eBook Lending Soars in Airport

KLIA and klia2 eBook via bluetooth beacon disburse more than 40 thousand borrowings

IMG_3322 (1)Cyberjaya, 3rd February 2017 – KLIA and klia2 launched a free service allowing passengers to download eBooks and bring with them on flights in the month of May last year.

Ever since launched, until end of 2016, the service have distributed more than 40 thousand eBooks to passengers from all corners of the world, and still continuing to grow.

This is an astonishing achievement and a proof that Internet of Things actually benefits our lifestyle. Imagine doing this with printed books? The cost, the mess, the logistics, it will be impossible. With the infrastructure in place at KLIA and klia2, thousands of ebooks have been distributed without making a sound or fuss”, says Faiz Al-Shahab from e-Sentral, the company behind the facility at KLIA and klia2.

From data shared, passengers of all sorts of nationalities have been using the eBook borrowing system, with obviously Malaysians being the majority users. Novels, travel and political ebooks are also the revealed as the most popular genre picked by passengers.

We also have equally same amount of ebook lend outs between KLIA and klia2, although klia2 have a higher traffic for passengers. This is probably because klia2 caters more quick stop and short trip passengers who have lesser time before and after flights, if compared to KLIA passengers”, explains Faiz.

This facility which consists of 80 eBook beacons with 50meters radius fencing strategically placed at locations of the airports marked with flags and instructions, is considered the first Internet of Things infrastructure of its kind in the world. Currently, travelers in KLIA have a choice of more than 400 ebook titles ranging from all sorts of categories. Once the ebooks are downloaded, the passenger can use the ebooks for their waiting time and air travel. Each passengers are entitled to borrow up to two titles for a duration of two days.

This ebook rental via Bluetooth beacon facility is a partnership effort between e-Sentral.com (Xentral Methods Sdn Bhd), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), and Perbadanan Kota Buku.

End of IDPF, Start of a New Era for Digital Publishing Standards

idpf-w3c

Finally, International Digital Publishing Forum, or known as IDPF, has been absorbed into W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) as Publishing@W3C. The end of IDPF as a stand alone organisation ended the eBook standards early days journey which commence in 1999 with introduction of Open eBook Publication Structure (OEB) that later on contributed to the EPUB standards (which was governed by IDPF). This evolution in the journey of digital publishing standards is inevitable due to modern eBooks mimicking too much of the web. After all, the core of modern eBooks is HTML, and also perhaps other web technologies.

We at e-Sentral welcome any progressive change which can take digital publishing and EPUB standards to the next level. Whether if eBooks of the future will still maintain the looks of a traditional book or will blend with looks of the web is actually a secondary matter, what is important is that eBooks will better spell digital content for users.

MALAYSIA: THE INFERIOR NATION [PART III]

Part III – of a continuing series

By Faiz Al-Shahab

I remembered my childhood days living in England, where my family were the very few coloured existence in the suburb of Salford city. From time to time, we make our way to the city of Manchester to meet up with the Malaysian community, the only chance we get to eat satay and laksa at the time. For those who never experienced living abroad in the 80’s and 90’s, Malaysian community overseas especially the students and post-grad students live modestly. They buy cheap old cars, and rent cheap homes, contrasting to their lifestyle back in Malaysia.

Evidently it is due to the exchange rate that gives Malaysian studying community overseas a smaller buying power, but it is also due to the fact that everybody’s goal was to save money and buy bone china, mini-compo, wallpaper, a car or two, and Western brand accessories, all to be fitted into a shipping container heading back to Malaysia at the end of the stay. In the meantime, standard of living abroad suffers, but it was never an issue because status and style did not come into equation amongst Malaysian community abroad, accept for the ones in London.

Bear in mind, these people in that community later on in life sat in high positions in government and corporate offices of Malaysia. Many became Secretary General and Director General of Ministries, deputies, CEO’s and MD’s of corporations, Directors, you name it.

It demonstrates that downgrading on lifestyle is perfectly fine, and we can benefit from it. Nonetheless, once in Malaysia all that is put aside.

Today unfortunately, the heated topic still revolves around the dire straits situation of our economy. The bad news is, we have yet to go through the worse of it.

Nonetheless going through bad times can open up to new opportunities and provide us reasons for changes.

We at e-Sentral urge our society and organisations be it government or corporate to take austerity measures in printing medium, to reduce expenditures. If we cannot make big changes, do the small things that we can first. Slowly slowly catche monkey. By making our annual publications such as annual reports, news bulletins, manuals, informative books, boss’ biographies, and company’s audit in digital book form, entities can save huge amount of yearly expenses. Many have joined the band wagon and made savings.

Of course, this comes with having to change our mind set and the way we do things too.

Running a tight ship is not for everyone, but we have to be smarter and increase our value and dignity.

This is the best time to reflect at how we can improve in doing things we have not changed in many years.

For local Universities par example, the press and publishing houses should publish more textbooks and academic materials for own consumption rather than using far more expensive foreign publications. If our lecturers and professors deem that local materials are not good enough, then there is no point to have university press and publishing houses in the first place. The local lecturers in a way are saying that their own writing is not good enough for our students. Moving ahead, there will be no room for this kind of mentality.

Tighten your seat belts. strong waves ahead! Prediction for the near future will not be so forgiving either, with fuel price forecast to go up, it will only set the left overs suits and ties of the oil and gas club back to its arrogant mode, but for other industries, austerity is still very real. So lets take the opportunity to be smart about things, and make effective spending.
