International Digital Publishing Forum, or better known as IDPF, which governs the trade and standards of digital publishing industry globally, have recently opened up to idea of having protection as a standard for ePub, the promoted format for modern ebooks. Currently, copyrights protection, also known as Digital Rights Management (DRM), is an option that platform provides.
IDPF steps were signified by their announcement to receiving proposals for a light weight copyrights protection solution back in July. Since then, many
companies in the industry have forwarded their solutions and idea. If this ought to move forward, future standards of ePub may already have standard features of water marking or protection inside. This will definitely determine on how future ebooks will be implemented.
